In 2019, Google shipped one of the most beloved easter eggs ever made: search “Thanos”, tap the Infinity Gauntlet, and half the search results crumbled to dust — complete with the result counter ticking down by exactly 50%. Google retired the effect, but the snap lives on right here. Go ahead:
The original 2019 easter egg
Timed with the release of Avengers: Endgame, Google’s snap was a mini masterpiece of detail. The gauntlet icon appeared in the knowledge panel when you searched Thanos. One click: results dissolved into drifting particles, the result count halved, and a second click on the gauntlet used the Time Stone to reverse it all — dust reassembling into search results. It was pop-culture history rendered in a search page, and clips of it still circulate every time a new Marvel movie lands.
Why did Google remove the Thanos snap?
Google has never given an official reason — the egg quietly stopped working in the years after launch. The likely explanation is routine: movie tie-in features are licensed and seasonal, and search-page code gets cleaned up. Whatever the reason, searching “thanos snap trick” on Google today produces ordinary results, which is exactly why rebuilt versions exist.
How our version works
Tap Snap your fingers and exactly half the tiles disintegrate — each one drifts off on its own path with a randomized delay, echoing the original particle effect. Tap Undo the snap and everything reassembles. No login, no downloads, works on phones.
More retired-and-rebuilt classics
Google also retired the original Zerg Rush game — we rebuilt that too, fully playable. And if destruction is the theme, Google Gravity has a black hole mode. Browse everything in the Google Easter Eggs.
Does the Thanos snap still work on Google?
No — Google retired it. Searching Thanos today shows a normal knowledge panel with no gauntlet. Our page recreates the effect.
When did Google add and remove the snap?
It launched in April 2019 alongside Avengers: Endgame. There was no announced removal date — it quietly disappeared afterward.
Did the snap really remove half the results?
Yes — the result counter visibly dropped by half, one of the details fans loved most.
Can I undo the snap?
In the original, clicking the gauntlet again reversed everything via the Time Stone. Our Undo button does the same.
Is this affiliated with Marvel or Google?
No — this is a fan-made tribute. Thanos and related marks belong to Marvel; the original easter egg was Google’s.
