Google’s famous trick spins the page exactly once — and that’s it. If you searched for do a barrel roll x2, 10 times, 20 times or even x100, Google can’t help you. This tool can. Pick a preset or type any number up to 1000 and watch it go.
How many rolls?
What is “do a barrel roll”?
Type “do a barrel roll” into Google and the whole results page performs a single 360° spin. Google launched it in November 2011 as a tribute to Star Fox 64, the 1997 Nintendo game where pilot Peppy Hare repeatedly barks the order “Do a barrel roll!” — you dodge enemy fire by spinning your ship. The phrase became one of gaming’s most quoted lines, and Google’s homage turned it into one of the most-searched tricks on the internet, still pulling hundreds of thousands of searches every month more than a decade later.
Every variant, one tool
These are the versions people actually look for — all of them work right here with the controls above:
| You searched | What to do |
|---|---|
| do a barrel roll 2 times / twice / x2 | Tap the 2× button |
| do a barrel roll 10 times / x10 | Tap 10× |
| do a barrel roll 20 times / x20 | Tap 20× |
| do a barrel roll 67 | Tap 67× (yes, it’s a real trend) |
| do a barrel roll 100 times / x100 | Tap 100× |
| x200, x500, x1000… | Type the number and hit Roll it |
The spin uses smooth CSS rotation, so even 100 rolls won’t lag a modern phone — the duration scales up so long runs stay watchable instead of becoming a blur.
Why doesn’t “do a barrel roll 20 times” work on Google?
Google hard-coded a single rotation. There is no hidden setting or secret phrasing that makes it spin twice — searches like “do a barrel roll x20” simply return normal results (often with this page in them, which is how you got here). The multiplier only exists in fan-built versions like ours.
Related tricks on Google
Two cousins worth knowing: searching “z or r twice” (the actual Star Fox button combo) also triggers Google’s single spin, and “askew” tilts the page instead of spinning it — we’ve rebuilt that one too with an adjustable angle: try Askew / Tilt. For the full collection, see our Google Easter Eggs.
Does the barrel roll work on mobile?
Yes — the tool above is touch-first. Tap any preset or type a custom number; the page spins the same way it does on desktop.
What's the maximum number of rolls?
1000 per run here. Beyond that, browsers start skipping animation frames on slower devices, so we cap it where it stays smooth.
Why did Google make this easter egg?
It’s a tribute to Star Fox 64 (1997), where Peppy Hare repeatedly tells you to “do a barrel roll!” The line became a gaming meme, and Google’s 2011 homage cemented it.
Does 'z or r twice' still work on Google?
Yes — it triggers the same single spin, because Z and R are the buttons you double-tap to roll in Star Fox 64.
Will this ever stop working?
Google occasionally retires easter eggs, but ours is self-hosted — it works regardless of what Google changes.
