Search askew on Google and the results page tilts a few degrees clockwise — subtle enough that some people don’t notice, unsettling enough that others clean their screen. Google gives you one fixed angle. Our version gives you a slider: any tilt from -30° (hard left) to +30° (hard right), plus one-tap presets.
Tilt angle — 10°
What does “askew” actually mean?
Askew is simply English for “not straight; tilted to one side.” Google’s engineers turned the word into a visual pun around 2011: search the definition, get the demonstration. It belongs to a small family of self-describing tricks — like searching “recursion”, where Google asks “Did you mean: recursion” forever.
Variants people search for
“askew left” — Google only tilts right; use our -20° preset or drag the slider negative. “askew/tilt” — tilt is the same egg; both words trigger it on Google. “askew 90 degrees” — a full sideways page breaks readability entirely, which is why we cap at 30°, but you can get the vertigo without losing the text. “askew google not working” — see the fix section below.
Askew not working on Google? The 3 usual reasons
- You’re in the search bar of the app, not the website. The tilt works on the Google results page in a browser — some in-app search boxes skip the effect.
- Dark-mode extensions or accessibility tools that rewrite page CSS can cancel the transform. Try an incognito window.
- Reduced-motion settings. If your OS has “reduce motion” on, some animated eggs are disabled. Our version above still works because the tilt is a static transform, not an animation.
More page-bending tricks
If tilting isn’t chaotic enough, Do a Barrel Roll spins the page completely — as many times as you want — and Google Gravity drops every element to the floor. The full list lives in our Google Easter Eggs.
What angle does Google's askew use?
Roughly 5 degrees clockwise — small enough to feel wrong rather than look broken. Our default preset matches the feel at 10° so the effect is clearly visible.
Can I tilt the page left on Google?
No — Google’s version only leans right. Use our slider or the Lean left preset for a counter-clockwise tilt.
Does askew work on mobile Google?
Usually yes in mobile browsers, but not always in the Google app. Our tool works in any mobile browser.
Is 'tilt' the same easter egg?
Yes. Google treats askew and tilt as the same trigger; both tilt the results page.
Why does the page go back to normal?
On our tool the tilt persists until you hit Reset — Google’s version resets when you leave the results page.
