192.168.1.1 is the default address that opens the admin settings of most home routers — TP-Link, Netgear, D-Link, Linksys and many more. Type it into your browser’s address bar (not a search box) and you land on your own router’s login page, where you can change the WiFi name, password, and every other setting. How to log in, step by step
- Make sure your phone or computer is connected to that router’s WiFi or cable — you can only reach it from its own network.
- Open a browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Press Enter.
- A login box appears asking for a username and password.
- Enter your router’s admin credentials (this is not your WiFi password — see below).
- You’re in the dashboard. Change what you need, then save.
Default usernames and passwords
If you never changed the admin login, it’s usually printed on a sticker on the bottom of the router. The most common factory defaults by brand:
